Job Description Summary GE Aviation is investing in the next generation of turbofan engine and engine system technologies to the realize the aviation industry sustainability goals in the first half of the 21st century. The Sr Staff Embedded Software Engineer will work in the Advanced Technologies Organization in support of the various demonstration programs (eg Hybrid Electric, Hydrogen).

The Sr Staff Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing and testing Embedded Software (Firmware), platforms and systems that control and runs on devices that need to be tailored to the needs of the hardware that it has to control and run on (ie directly controls the real time functions of a physical device such as motors, engines, valves, and other devices and products). Requires a deep understanding of the characteristics of the physical device being controlled, the real-time functions it is expected to perform and the ability to design, develop, implement, and test the logic and software required to realize the real-time functionality. Roles and Responsibilities

As the Sr Staff Embedded Software Engineer, you will:

  • Participate in all facets of the systems engineering process - system architecture, systems engineering, and project management
  • Develops the overall software structure. Defines software components, the control and data interactions between them, and develops a suitable software solution.
  • Define and execute engineering lifecycle test, validation, and verification activities
  • Apply GE best practices and design standards to control system software designs
  • Present designs and validation results to internal (GE) and external customers
  • Lead the definition of software planning activities and ensure compliance with and maintenance of approved plans
  • Define and formalize system, software, and human integration requirements; ensure compatibility of software requirements with hardware requirements
  • Define and execute engineering lifecycle test, validation, and verification activities
  • Apply Lean principles, GE best practices, and design standards to control system software designs
  • Lead the application of configuration management tools to software designs
  • Validate and verify software designs in a diversity of system integration environments - from local desktop computer simulations to fully representative flight tests
  • Present designs and validation results to internal (GE) and external (airframer, agency, government, ) customers
  • Collaborate effectively in a diverse, global, distributed work environment

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with relevant work experience

  • Coding experience in MATLAB, python, C/C+, SCADE, VBA, etc.
  • Real time embedded software or firmware design experience
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of networks, operating systems, cybersecurity, databases and applications
  • Demonstrated team leadership, collaboration, and facilitation skills
  • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams
  • Project planning and project management experience
  • Keen listener and innate drive to succeed
